Located in north central North Carolina, the Piedmont Triad cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point and their neighboring towns are rich in history and culture

North Carolina’s diverse landscape offers a temperate four-season climate and outdoor lifestyle, whether you live at the coast, mountains, the Sandhills region, or the Piedmont Triad.

Within the Piedmont region, in the central part of the state, is the metropolitan statistical region (MSA) of 1. 6 million referred to as the “Triad” including the three cities of Greensboro (est.pop. 279,639), Winston-Salem (est. pop. 235,527) and High Point (est.pop.108,629).

The Triad’s location on the east coast is favored by businesses that need easy access to suppliers. In three hours or less, residents and visitors travel west to Asheville, Boone and smaller surrounding mountain towns. Take a four-hour drive to the east to spend time at Cape Fear and other beaches.

The Triad has evolved from being the center of tobacco and textile manufacturing, and has emerged as a progressive region. Winston-Salem, settled by the Moravians in 1770, is a city of technology, arts and innovation. Wake Forest Innovation Quarter research park is transforming the vibrant downtown.

Greensboro (also known as the Gate City) is a center of education with five universities and colleges. Civil rights history plays a prominent role in the city where the sit-in movement originated in 1960. Greensboro, tied to denim as the city where Wrangler jeans manufacturing originated, is expanding its aviation sector with companies such as Honda Jet and others.

Furniture continues to play a role in High Point’s success. In the spring and fall, the High Point International Home Furnishings Market, the largest trade show of its kind in the world, transforms the city for two weeks into an international city. High Point has also been transformed by the presence of renowned High Point University, a private liberal arts institution.
